Support
How can we help?
For the Circle of Joy app on Android, iPhone and iPad.
Write to us
A person reads every message. It helps to say which phone you host on, which game you were playing, and what happened. For a wrong question, the flag inside the game is quickest — or write to us with the question's wording.
Joining a room
How do other people join?
Only the host installs the app. Everyone else points their phone's camera at the QR code on the host's screen, or types the address shown under it into any browser. No download, no account.
The code opens but the page never loads
Every phone has to be on the same network as the host. Many venue and guest Wi-Fi networks stop devices from seeing each other; if that happens, turn on the host phone's personal hotspot and have everyone join that instead. No internet connection is needed either way.
Someone dropped out of the game
Their seat and score are kept. Open the same address again on that phone and they are back where they were.
Can one person play alone?
Yes. The host can take a seat in their own room. Question Quiz and Passage Builder work with one player; the other games need at least two.
The host's phone
Android
The room keeps running with the screen locked or while you use another app; a notification shows it is open. Close it with Close room, from that notification, or by swiping the app away.
iPhone and iPad
Keep Circle of Joy open on the screen while a room is running — the app stops the screen from locking by itself. If you switch apps or lock the phone, players lose the room until you come back.
What it runs on
Hosting: Android 8 or later, or iOS and iPadOS 17 or later. Joining: any phone, tablet or computer with a modern browser.
Subscriptions
Who pays?
Only the host. Hosting a room needs a subscription, monthly or yearly; everyone who joins plays for nothing.
Cancel or change a subscription
iPhone and iPad: Settings › your name › Subscriptions. Android: Google Play › your profile › Payments & subscriptions › Subscriptions. A subscription renews automatically until you cancel it, and cancelling keeps it working to the end of the period you paid for.
New phone, or the subscription does not show
Sign in with the same Apple or Google account you subscribed with, open the subscription screen, and tap Restore purchases.
Refunds
Purchases are made through the App Store or Google Play, and refunds are handled by them: on Apple, at reportaproblem.apple.com; on Google Play, from your order history in the Play Store. We never see your payment details.
Privacy
The app collects nothing and sends nothing anywhere; the whole game stays on your own network. The full policy is on the privacy page.
